Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty Bike Ride
100 miles. 10,700 vertical feet. 2,500 friends

This year marks the 20th anniversary celebration of the Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty Bike Ride.  Taking place on September 28, 2008 in Georgia's Premier Cycling Venue, the race boasts many of the same roads and mountain climbs of the Tour de Georgia.

The Six Gap Century’s ultra challenging route takes you up and down six of the steepest climbs in the North Georgia Mountains. Test your stamina with more than 10,700 feet of vertical climbing over the 100 mile course. Elevations for the six gaps in this ride range from 2,949 feet to 3,490 feet. The toughest climb, Hogpen Gap, will test even the strongest riders, averaging a 7% grade for seven miles, with sections as steep as 15%.   The Three Gap Fifty’s alternative route offers half the gaps and half the distance, but is nevertheless a demanding and challenging course. Elevations range from 3,109 feet to 3,280 feet.

Inside the musuem, after paying your fee, are maps and primary documents relating to the gold rush. Information includes gold receipts issued by the mint, photographs of miners and mines and an interesting film that tells the story of the gold rush and mining that occurred after through the eyes of the people of Dahlonega.

When you visit, you will be taken on an underground tour of the gold mine by our friendly, knowledgeable staff. Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega was the site of America’s first gold rush. After the tour you will do some gold panning, and gem grubbing. Your gold mine tour guides are  friendly and can answer any questions you have about hard rock mining and the excavation period in which approximately 4,000 tons of dirt, debris and ore were removed from the tunnel system.  The guides are open to questions and welcome interaction during the 40-45 minute tour. The mines remain at a comfortable 60 degrees year round. A GREAT gold mine adventure!
